TiVo HD XL Packs 150 Hours of HD Storage

September 04, 2008 | by Geoff Duncan

TiVo is packing a 1 TB drive into its new TiVo HD XL, offering up to 150 hours of high-definition recording time.

Just a day after the company spilled news about re-partnering with cable operator DirecTV, DVR pioneer TiVo has unveiled a new DVR unit at this year's CEDIA Expo—and it's a whopper. The new TiVO HD XL includes a 1 TB hard drive, enabling users to record up to 150 hours of high-definition programming. As with previous TiVo HDs, the unit offers dual tuners, THX certification, HDMI connectivity, and a backlit Series 3 remote control. The new DVR is available now for $599.99.

"With so much HD content now available, we felt it was vital to offer consumers an easy way to record as much television programming as they'd like to watch at a later time without ever having to worry about capacity," said TiVO director of product platforms Andrew Morrison, in a statement.

TiVo HD owners will be able to record two HD shows at the same time (via CableCard or ATSC over-the-air broadcasts), even while watching recorded programming. TiVo users can also download videos directly to their DVRs, tap into YouTube, and stream music fro the Rhapsody streaming service. Like the TiVo HD, the TiVO HD XL is designed to integrate with home theater systems, providing high quality sound and audio for serious TV and film buffs.
