No New Kindle This Year
September 01, 2008 | by Christopher Nickson
Amazon has scotched rumors of a new Kindle ebook reader aimed at students arriving during 2008.
For a little while now market watchers had been predicting a new, stripped-down – and cheaper - version of Amazon’s Kindle ebook reader aimed at students arriving before the end of the year.
It’s not going to happen.
Talking to the New York Times, Amazon’s Craig Berman was categorical in his denial:
"Don't believe everything you read -- there's a lot of rumor and speculation out there about Kindle. One thing I can tell you for sure is that there will be no new version of Kindle this year. A new version will come out sometime next year at the earliest."
He wouldn’t be drawn on whether that new version would be aimed at the student market.
