HTC S740's Got Your Numbers And Your QWERTY
August 26, 2008 | by Geoff Duncan
HTC's new S740 Windows Mobile smartphone offers both a traditional telephone keypad and a slide-out QWERTY keypad for your messaging needs.
As long as we're talking about 3.5G HSDPA smartphones that aren't likely to make it to North America (ahem), we might as well mention the HTC S740, a follow-up to the HTC Touch Diamond that packs 7.2 Mbps HSDPA/WCDMA 900/2100 MHz access for use in Europe, along with quad-band GSM/EDGE and a standalone GPS receiver. The S740 runs Windows MObile 6.1—and so offers access to Outlook, mobile versions of Office applications, Mobile IE, Exchange capability, Windows Media Player, etc., etc.—what might really set the S740 is its form factor. All put together, it's just a phone with a keypad. Slide it open, the S740 packs a complete QWERTY keyboard for all your messaging needs.
The S740 also offers a 3.2 megapixel camera, integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless networking, an integrated mic and speaker, and a 2.4-inch QVGA screen.
The HTC S740 should begin shipping in Europe next month; HTC hasn't yet released any pricing information.
