iLuv i1255 Combines iPod Dock, DVD Player
June 26, 2008 | by Geoff Duncan
iLuv's new i1255 combines an iPod dock with a DVD player and 5.1 audio, letting users combine common video sources without the usual cabling hassles.
It might not be the latest and greatest technology for, say, living room entertainment, but there are plenty of people looking to fill out a rec room, study, or children's bedroom with a DVD player. And then they realize they have an iPod dock hooked up to let folks access iPod-based video, images, and music. And then you're awash in little flimsy plastic devices, remotes, and cables.
iLuv has launched its i1255 iPod/DVD player combo. The basic idea is to combine frequently-used devices into on easy-to-use package, rather than push the envelope for high-def entertainment. The unit includes a standard DVD player (doesn't even do upscaling) with an iPod dock that enables users to watch their iPod-based video on the connected TV. The unit offers a combined remote for controlling both iPod and DVD player functions, component and X-Video output, and support for 5.1 audio (and a coax digital audio output). Technologically, the i1255 is yesterday's news, but as a combination it might easily save some users clutter and hassle.
The iLuv i1255 carries a suggested price of $149.99, and should be available now.
