If you thought it was ridiculous to use two high-priced video cards to power your gaming system's display...now Nvidia's found a way for you to use three!

Graphics developer Nvidia is known for producing high performance—and high-priced—computer video systems, but hardcore action gamers have taken a shine to the company's SLI technology, which enables gamers to apply the processing torque of two high-end graphics cards to their display, providing high resolution, high frame-rate action on their favorite titles. Ever mindful of extreme gamers' needs, Nvidia has decided to up the ante, extending its SLI technology to enable gamers to tap up to three GeForce graphics cards.

"The new crop of PC games offers stunning visuals," said Nvidia's GeForce desktop GPU general manager Ujesh Desai, in a statement. "And for truly immersive game play with all the eye candy you need to play on a PC with a lot of graphics horse power. Three-way SLI produces stunning visuals, pristine image quality, and a truly awesome gaming experience."

Three-way SLI operates via an Nvidia nForce 680 SLI MCP motherboard and three GeForce GTX or GEForce 8800 Ultra graphics cards. Combined the system offers 382 stream processors, a 110+ gigatexel/sec texture fill rate, and over two GB of video memory. Maxed out, the system enables gamers to experience new graphics intensive titles like Call of Duty 4, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and Unreal Tournament 3 at the highest available resolution, with all graphics settings cranked up, and across-the-board antialiasing.

A list of PC system builders and 3-way SLI certified components is available from Nvidia's SLIZone site. Just don't expect all that pixel-pushing to come cheap!
