Extra Protection For UK eBay Users

October 25, 2007 | by Christopher Nickson

eBay and Paypal will introduce security tokens in the New Year.

If you’re a UK-based eBay user, you’re going to be faced with a choice in the New Year – but don’t worry, it’s a good one.

You’ll have the choice of using a new security device to protect your account, a hardware security token via Paypal, according to a story on Vnunet.

The security token, which comes from Verisign, will be on key fobs and generate a new account password with each logon.

It’s been tested in Germany, Australia and the United States with great success and will be available in the UK and other European countries early in 2008.

“We’ve heard from our customers that they like the extra layer of protection that the PayPal Security Key provides,” said Mike Vergara, director of account protections at PayPal, in a statement. “We look forward to working with VeriSign to provide the PayPal Security Key to even more customers in additional markets -- enhancing security on the Internet and confidence in shopping online.”
