March 09, 2006 | by Nino Marchetti

Maker of memory cards increases capacity of card format popular in digital cameras to 4GB to meet demands of new products on market.

SanDisk today unveiled the highest capacity Memory Stick PRO Duo card on the market to date. The new 4GB capacity is priced at $299 and expected to be available next month.

The move to a larger capacity Memory Stick PRO Duo card, said SanDisk, is geared primarily towards the release of high-megapixel cameras as well as hybrid models that combine digital still images and video. SanDisk also made a color change in the Memory Stick PRO Duo line from pale blue to deep blue.

"As consumers shoot more video on these new digital cameras, they will need more storage capacity," said Susan Park, retail product marketing manager for SanDisk's standard memory card line, in a statement. "The SanDisk Memory Stick PRO Duo exceeds the minimum performance specifications for a Memory Stick PRO Duo card and is compatible with any device that uses the format."
