Great article, nice to see these sites get some recognition. That Whiteboard.com and Vimeo.com look pretty cool.

How about a Web 2.0 calendar? There's been no decent calendar solution which has been able to satisfy me yet, but 30boxes blew me out of the water even though it's presently still missing a reminder option. http://30boxes.com/index.php?tz=480

So many great web applications out there so little time. Don't forget some of my favorites:

http://listal.com - dvd, books, music organization
http://onfinite.com - :)

the web 2.0 type app i cant live without is mybloglog ( http://www.mybloglog.com ), it tells me what my readers like on my blog in real time, and in the interest of disclosure i did help build mybloglog, my other favorite apps are flickr (i paid for a pro account), digg, and delicious, but they were already mentioned

I was wondering if anyone was kind enough to answer if all Web 2.0 technologies rely on an ubiquitas server that interfaced all user-data in order to modify applications so that they are tailored to the individual. This raises profound privacy concerns and I simply do not trust Big Brother with any of my personal surfing or computing habits.
Thanks,
Russell

Netvibes? This is one of the only sites I've seen in the past few years that won't display at all, even for a preview, if you're not accepting cookies. After *something* loads with a Loading... alert, that's all folks, it just sits there with that Loading word. When the site started, I entered a Comment there about this (of course after enabling cookies), but I just checked and it's still the same. Requiring cookies to work is understandable for a personalized portal, but to not even throw an alert, "Cookies Required" is unforgiveable. And to be unable to even preview is laughable.

Oh, btw, after Previewing this comment, and then adding, the page came up without this comment. Ha! I'm now trying it again with cookies enabled.

OK, my mistake, I guess it wasn't cookies here, it was email confirmation. That's ok by me.
