The HD-HC3, available in April, offers slow motion and dual mode video and digital image recording, among other features.
Sony yesterday announced a new high definition video camcorder which is over a quarter more compact then its predecessor and costs less. The new HDR-HC3 HDV 1080i Handycam camcorder is priced at $1,699.99 and should be available in April. The HD-HC3, said Sony, sports a Carl Zeiss Vario- Sonnar T* lens and Sony CMOS sensor technology to deliver what the company says is more vivid colors and precise image detail. Other features of this new Handycam include a four megapxiel still image capture capability, a dual record function to capture video and photos at the same time, storage of still images on an optional Memory Stick Pro Duo memory card, slow motion video record, a user assignable dial to access more regularly used options, a 2.7" swivel touch panel LCD, image stabilization, a built-in microphone, intelligent built-in flash and a rechargeable battery which reportedly offers up to 90 minutes of continuous recording. "People are more savvy about high-definition television, have experienced its visual impact, and now they want the same 'wow factor' for their own home movies," said Linda Vuolo, director for camcorder products at Sony Electronics, in a statement. "Sony has made great strides in creating the consumer HDV market over the past two years and now we are expanding it even further. Our latest model is a perfect solution for families who are currently using mini-DV camcorders and want to step up to high definition."

Ouch. High definition = huge budget required. I've got less chance of getting this than of getting a 60" HDTV.
Still, could be worth a try I suppose.
