New GX-1S, jointly developed with Pentax Corporation, is a six megapixel camera with a Schneider D-XENON lens.

Samsung earlier this week announced a partnership with Pentax Corporation under which the two have developed a digital SLR under the Samsung brand. The new Samsung GX-1S will be available later at an as yet unspecified date.

The Samsung GX-1S is a six megapixel, digital SLR with a Schneider D-XENON 18mm~55mm lens and a high resolution 2.5" color LCD. Features of this new Samsung camera include 16-segment multi-pattern metering, an 11-point AF sensor, several white balance settings, a variety of automatic shooting modes and a high-speed shooting mode of up to 2.8fps up to eight frames in JPEG shooting.

"Through this partnership, and the GX-1S introduction, we have an opportunity to make an immediate impact in the DSLR space and dramatically expand the range of options available to consumers under the Samsung Brand," says Ken Gerb, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Samsung Camera. "The GX-1S includes features that the consumer has demanded in the competitive digital camera market including a large, 2.5-inch LCD and the ability to interchangeably use Schneider and Pentax lenses for superb image clarity."
