Weather A Factor in Weather Channel Games

December 01, 2005 | by Nino Marchetti

New online driving and golf games being offered on weather.com will incorporate real time weather data to influence how the games are played.

The Weather Channel and game developer Skyworks Technologies yesterday announced they'd teamed to bring interactive games to viewers of weather.com. These games will incorporate real time weather data from The Weather Channel to allow visitors to experience live conditions as they play.

The Weather Channel Golf Game will have players step up to the tee on a par 3 and attempt to hit a hole-in-one. The shots they take in the game will be impacted by the current or forecast weather for any golf course in the United States.

The other game is The Weather Channel Driving Game. Players here drive through a 3D four wheeling twisting mountain road environment in either summer or winter driving conditions. Players control the weather within the game by choosing a location and time to play.

"People expect The Weather Channel to deliver comprehensive and accurate weather data on weather.com and along with that we strive to offer visitors engaging and unique weather-based content," said Tom Flournoy, vice president of product management for The Weather Channel Interactive. "Our new golf and driving games are ideal extensions of our weather programming that enable our visitors to be entertained by the weather while providing our advertisers a great opportunity to reach them."
